Course Description

World History and Geography: Beginnings to 1500 (H, C)

In this course, ninth grade students are introduced to world history on a comprehensive level. The role of geography in historical events and in the present day is emphasized throughout the course. There is an end of year SOL test for this course.

World History and Geography: 1500 to the Present (H, C)

In this course, tenth grade students continue their study of world history and geography from the Renaissance to the present. There is an end of year SOL test for this course.

U.S. History (AP)

This college level course offers a comprehensive analysis of United States History from its founding to the present. Students may elect to take the College Board exam for possible college credit. Most students take this in eleventh grade.

Virginia/U.S. History (C, X)

In this course, eleventh grade students study the founding and origins of the United States to the present day. There is an end of year SOL test for this course.

U.S. Government (H, C)

This twelfth grade course provides students with an introduction to the United States, Virginia, and Chesterfield County Government.

U.S. Government (AP)

This college level course offers an in-depth analysis of the foundations, institutions, and processes of the United States Government. Students may elect to take the College Board exam for possible college credit. Most students take this in twelfth grade.

European History (AP)

This college level course offers a chronological study of European history from the Renaissance to the present. Students may elect to take the College Board exam for possible college credit. Most students take this in twelfth grade.

Sociology

This course involves in-depth discussion and examination of social events and phenomena, allowing the student to have a better understanding of how and why society functions as it does.

Economics/Practical Law

This course offers a study of the American economic system along with the structure and practice of the judicial system. Each section is one semester; students must take both semesters.

Peer Facilitators / Advanced Peer Facilitators

This course offers students a chance to practice mediation techniques, volunteer in the community, and provide assistance to the school community. Students must apply to be a peer facilitator and must have one year of experience before taking Advanced Peer Facilitators.
