Earth Science Earth science is a laboratory course with major areas of study in astronomy,
geology, meteorology, physical geography, energy and the environment. This
course, which encompasses research design concepts introduced in middle
school, will use a class team approach for developing projects using descriptive
statistics. Biology, the study of living things, is a laboratory course which includes
the following major areas of study: ecology, taxonomy, cellular chemistry,
genetics, microbiology and physiology. These areas are developed within
the framework of the principle biological theories with an emphasis on critical
thinking and science process skills. Chemistry This laboratory course surveys the major topics in inorganic chemistry.
It is designed to provide a thorough foundation for the college-bound student
and is an inquirybased program emphasizing the quantitative treatment of
data, the development of critical thinking skills, abstract reasoning and
application of concepts. Physics This laboratory course is a college preparatory course with an emphasis
on problem solving, engineering, and physics concepts. Concepts reviewed
include mechanics, properties of matter, heat, light and sound, electricity
and magnetism and atomic and nuclear physics. Ecology This is a laboratory course focusing on how organisms interact with each
other and their environment. Major topics in this course are population
biology, ecosystems, and the effects of science and technology on physical
and complex adaptive systems. Vertebrate Anatomy and Physiology In this laboratory course students will examine the anatomy and physiology
of vertebrate systems. The laboratory portion of the course will provide
students with the opportunity to study a variety of vertebrate specimens
with an emphasis on physiological processes. |
