James River High School PTSA

More on PTSA Programs and Projects

Your PTSA dues go a LONG, LONG way - to support the following programs and projects throughout the year:

Legislation
Each year the Virginia PTA identifies issues that the PTA believes are of importance to our membership in the continued education of our young people.  Legislative action items and policy statements are developed and all PTA members throughout Virginia are given an opportunity to vote on those items.  This year there are NO legislative items, and only ONE policy statement. You may vote by completing the 2008 Virginia PTA Proposed Legislative Program Ballot and emailing it to: sfdmbeyer@comcast.net .  All ballots must be completed by Monday, October 15, 2007.

Neighborhood Coffees
The Coffees are informal gatherings of parents in a particular neighborhood with Mr. Titus and a guidance counselor. It is a good way to communicate with our administration and get answers to questions you may have about how our school operates, county-wide educational issues, or the future direction of James River High School. If you would like to host a coffee in your neighborhood, contact Kathy Keeler at 378-8839 or kathyjk@comcast.net, or Diana Gettas at 897-0396.

Class Coffees
You have heard about Neighborhood Coffees, and now your PTSA is expanding to offer Class Coffees.  Your PTSA is hosting a Coffee for each grade level this year.  The coffees will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Library.  Mr. Titus and a guidance counselor will be there to answer any questions parents may have.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about James River, as well as class-specific information.  There will also be parent seminars held prior to the Class Coffees.  These seminars will begin at 6:00 p.m. and feature a guest speaker on a topic of particular relevance to class parents.

Post-Prom
Club 3700 on the James was a great success again last year!  Approximately 800 students and guests participated in the event during the wee hours of the morning of May 20.  The casino tables were busy, some of our very own James River students performed in the Closed Commons, and the food and Starbucks coffee were great!  The premier event of the evening was the appearance of Micah White.  Everyone was thrilled to see Micah again, and to have him perform on our very own Club 3700 on the James stage!  There were great prizes at the end of the evening, courtesy of local businesses

This year's Post-Prom is scheduled on May 17, 2008. If you would like to volunteer to help with Post-Prom, please contact Lil Jefferson at 560-3030 or phjeffer@comcast.net

Student Directory
The Directory is a handy reference for keeping in touch with James River High School friends and parents. All JRHS students are included in the directory, with the exception of those students who indicated they did not want their contact information to be listed.  One directory per family is free with PTSA membership.  Any remaining copies may be purchased for $7.00.  Contact Carmel Ryan at 378-2016, or ryanlivermores@comcast.net for a copy of the directory.

Would you like your business card to appear in the student directory? Complete the form and return to the school office by Friday, October 5.
