This course will give each student the knowledge and skills necessary for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and continuing physical fitness throughout their lifetime. The class consists of two major parts; health and physical education.

Health:

First Aid - Basic principles of how to treat and care for different illnesses and injuries.

Fitness - How to develop and maintain cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility.

Disease Prevention & Control - How to recognize and prevent food, water, animal, and insect born respiratory and skin infections.

Nutrition - How to formulate a nutritional plan for a family, and analyze the impact of dietary habits and lifestyle.

Family Life - Development of positive self-concept and respect for others. Stress management and resistance to peer pressure. Value of postponing sexual activity until marriage. Human sexuality, growth, and development. Human reproduction and contraception. Sexually transmitted diseases.

Tobacco, Alcohol, & Drugs - Evaluate refusal and assertive skills used to make responsible decisions. Determine legal consequences of tobacco, alcohol, and drug involvement. Justify the decision to abstain from drug abuse.

Physical Education:

Individual/Dual Sports - Various sports will be taught including: aerobics, badminton, dance, tennis, track & field, and weight training.

Fitness - How to assess and monitor personal fitness. The skills and knowledge to participate in lifetime activities.

Team Sports - Knowledge to perform activity skills and game strategies.
