International Center for Leadership in Education Model School 2007
Congratulations to John Titus and James River High School which was selected as a Model School for 2007 by the International Center for Leadership in Education. Eleven schools in the state were identified last Spring by the VDOE as effective schools based on the criteria established by the International Center for Leadership in Education. After interactions with staff, students and community and a two day site visit to each classroom, James River High School was one of 25 schools designated nationally for this honor. They were recognized for excellence in working with students in the transition from Middle School to High School and for efforts in seeing students reach graduation within four years after entry into school while holding to high levels of participation and rigor.
This designation is bestowed on schools through the International Center for Leadership in Education. As stated in their web-site: “Founded in 1991, the International Center for Leadership in Education has a wealth of experience in assisting schools and districts in implementing organizational changes that translate into world-class curriculum, instruction, and assessment systems. International Center staff, Senior Consultants, Master Teachers and trainers share their expertise in the management of change, achieving high standards, curriculum development and customized solutions for schools.
The International Center’s work is based on the premise that students are living in a world that is changing dramatically and the education system needs to adapt to those changes in order to prepare students for the world in which they will live and work. Helping to nurture the shared vision and other crucial elements of school improvement is one portion of the International Center’s work. Showcasing the results is an equally important part of what we do.”
James River will be invited to present at this year’s national conference in Orlando in June and a team of four staff members will be guests of the conference itself. According to their web-site: “The Model Schools Conference is the International Center’s signature event. It brings all the components of our work together at one time in support of our basic mission: a rigorous and relevant education for all students. The 16th Annual Model Schools Conference will showcase:
Last year, more than 7,000 participants left the Conference inspired and equipped to implement changes for world-class education in their schools, classrooms and communities.”
Congratulations to John and his staff at James River High School for the outstanding job they do.
