English 9:
English 9 is a genre-based course and includes the study of at
least one Shakespeare play, one novel, poetry, short stories, and
essays. Writing is emphasized along with vocabulary development.
The final exam consists of two portions, one writing prompt given
in April and an objective comprehensive exam given in June. This
is a county exam given in preparation for the SOL's. English 9 follows
a core curriculum set by Chesterfield County.

English 10:
English 10 is a study of American literature. The focus here is
on analytical, expository writing and literature, critical thinking
and vocabulary development. A core curriculum is followed. This
class also has a county exam given in April as a writing prompt
which counts as one half of the final exam grade.

English 11:
English 11 is a survey of British literature, focusing on analytical,
expository writing and critical thinking. A full research paper
is written in 11th grade. This class is an SOL class. Students must
pass both parts of the SOL in order to earn a verified credit. The
writing section of the test is given in March and the Reading Literature
Research section is given in May.

English 12:
English 12 is the study of World literature and its cultures. Writing
for college and/or the work place is emphasized. All seniors write
a personal statement for outside assessment during the first semester.
A research paper is also required.

AP Literature:
AP literature is a course that prepares students for the Advanced
Placement Literature exam. The focus is on reading and analyzing
multiple pieces of Literature in preparation for the AP exam. It
is taken as an alternative to English 12. |
