Commencement Information
June 10, 2010, James River will conduct its fourteenth commencement exercises, during which diplomas will be awarded to candidates for graduation. Because the school wishes to honor its graduates in a particular way, the Faculty and Senior Class are distributing this guide to acquaint the school community with graduation and its related activities.
Commencement
Commencement will be held in the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center on Saturday, June 10, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be required of all guests and will be issued to each candidate for graduation prior to the end of school. Parking passes (2) will be issued to each candidate for graduation for the parking decks adjacent to the Siegel Center on Broad Street or on Bowe Street at graduation practice.
Academic Attire
Caps and gowns will be worn at both Baccalaureate and Commencement. It is expected that gentlemen will wear white shirts and ties as well as dark slacks, socks and shoes with their caps and gowns. It is requested that ladies wear dark shoes with their caps and gowns. In keeping with the dignity of these exercises, graduates are requested not to affix buttons or slogans to academic apparel. The tassel is worn to the right side of the cap to facilitate photographs.
Special Requests of Our Guests
In order to maintain an atmosphere properly befitting this special occasion, the school asks that our guests:
- not bring food, drink, balloons, signs or noise makers into the Siegel Center.
- proceed immediately to their seats to avoid obstructing the view of others.
- be in the seating area by 6:45 p.m. The academic procession will begin at 7:00 p.m. Plan to remain for the entire program and refrain from excessive noise during the awarding of diplomas.
- not leave the seating area to take photgraphs. Guests will not be permitted on the lower level of the Center at any time prior to, during, or after the Commencement Exercises.
Photographs
Seniors are photographed in caps and gowns as a group on Class Day, and individually at Commencement on June 10. Prior to Class Day, seniors will receive ordering information for the class picture. A proof of the diploma photograph and ordering information will be mailed to each graduate’s home address several weeks after graduation. The commencement exercises will be videotaped by Chesterfield County and will be shown live on Chesterfield Comcast channel 80.
